The Max’d Men’s Ministry is a group of men who gather together for discipleship, leadership development, friendship and servanthood. Men are encouraged to gather with like-minded men to grow toward what it means to be a Godly man.
Four Pillars of Engagement
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20
It is our “Great Commission” to go and make disciples of all nations but not before we disciple our homes. Paul instructs us in 1Tim 5:8 “If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever”. We want men to take the rightful place in their own homes as priests. Discipleship must be continual to develop, draw and diversify men of every walk. We will develop our discipleship into other study areas, small groups and share groups to help empower men to be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership, and lay your hand on him. Numbers 27:18
When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done to you.” John 13:12-15
To lead as Max’d Men we must lead like Jesus led. Whether at work/home/church we lead as a servant, as a sacrifice, as a mentor, as a teacher, as a friend. As guys go through book/bible studies or participate in activities we will actively seek those with the capacity and desire to lead other men and build other leaders. We will use the B.U.I.L.D model for leadership and discipleship development and will work to help them maximize their leadership.
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:12-15
In a survey published by AARP in 2010, we learn that 1 in 3 adults aged 45 or older reported being chronically lonely. A decade before just 1 in 5 said the same thing. Between 1999 and 2010, suicide among men age 50 and over rose 50%! The New York Times reports that the suicide rate for middle-aged men was 27.3 deaths per 100,000 while for women it was 8.1. This pillar is one of the most crucial building blocks for this ministry. Relationships, real relationships must be obtained/maintained if we ever hope to lead and disciple our friends, our families and other men. Men are not and will not be alone in anything, ever! NO MAN LEFT BEHIND! 1Cor 10:13
But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:25-28
Our desire is the use the S.U.P.P.O.R.T model when developing our servanthood. We aim to support all other ministries of RUMC through Service, Upward Focus, Prayer, Passion, Obedience, Resources and our Time. We identify men with a passion for service and working with their hands so we can have a team actively working on service opportunities for our men to become maximized in their servanthood. Service is also a great opportunity for Fathers to mold and mentor their children by teaching them to love like Jesus did.
